To Implement an Evening/weekend Practical Nursing Program to accommodate students who can not attend the day program.

To provide technical programs, based on local, regional, and state employment needs for students seeking immediate employment upon graduation.

Nursing pre-admission conferences were conducted to determine the interest for an evening/weekend Practical Nursing Program. Sixty one-one (61) individuals attended pre-admission conferences to apply for admission to the program.  Applicants are also asked complete a survey stating their preferences for times when class and lab/clinicals should be held

The PN curriculum does not include the administration of IV Push/Bolus medication and the administration of Blood/blood products.

Calls from hospitals and nursing home requesting workshops for their LPNs to practice the expanded scope of practice indicate the need to present the workshop addressing the expanded scope of LPN practice

The PN curriculum was revised to include the administration of IV Push/Bolus medication and the administration of Blood/blood products.

Three (3)  workshops were implemented on Expanded Scope of LPN IV Practice:

To provide technical programs, based on local, regional, and state employment needs for students seeking immediate employment upon graduation.

Data indicates that that the attrition rate in the first and third semester is 40%.

Current Nursing software is not sufficient to enhance student critical thinking skills

Program attrition rate indicates the need for additional educational aids such as software that simulates nursing situations in order to increase critical thinking skills, thereby, decreasing attrition.

The October 25, 2005 minutes of the Nursing Advisory Committee documents that the members agreed that such instructional aids are critical.

Software was purchased from Perkins funding to enhance critical thinking and problem solving:

· Adult Health Nursing Concepts  and Skills -11 modules

·   Critical Care Concepts and Skills 6 modules

·   Clinical Nursing Concepts and Skills. -  6 modules

·   Maternity Nursing Concepts and Skills                                                                                                                         2 modules          429.00

·   Pediatric Nursing Concepts and Skills                                                                                                                        3 modules                                                  599.00

·   Nurse ProCalc                             3 modules 1199.00

Mandatory attendance at a time management and test-taking workshop was implemented for students enrolled in the first and third semester of the program.

Future data will be analyze to determine that critical thinking skills were enhanced as evidenced by increased  completion rates for the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree levels of the Nursing Mobility Program.
